Comforting Gluten Free Thai Soup

Soup is a traditional comfort food. When you are desirous of comfort food you don't have to stick with traditional soup. Those that are unable to eat gluten dishes may think that soup is off the menu. That is not true when you dine at a Thai restaurant. You can branch out and enjoy the flavors and textures that come from Thai soup at your local restaurants while still following your diet. Try these Thai soups for comforting, exotic, and healthy flavors.

Thai Tom Yum

This soup is made with a clear broth and lots of herbs. It is known for its hot and sour flavor. The crushed chili peppers provide the spice and the sour flavor is created with a combination of lime juice, fish sauce, and lemongrass. Coconut milk provides a soothing base so that neither the spicy or sour flavors overpower your taste buds.

Shrimp is generally the main protein in this soup, but you may find variations with squid, prawns, clams and pieces of fish. Onions and straw mushrooms are usually added to this soup. If you are trying to make this dish at home, rather than ordering it at a restaurant, make sure that you use canned straw mushrooms so that you get the traditional flavor. Most supermarkets do not carry fresh Asian straw mushrooms.

Gluten Free Chicken Noodle Soup
